CORBETT REVISITED 2015

Going back to places you have been earlier to with your loved ones brings back pleasant memories. And revisiting such places is always double the fun, enjoying the present and relishing the past. Two years ago while coming back from our weekend trip to Corbett my husband said I love the solitude, wish to come back here. May 2015 saw us heading towards Corbett again, adding more members to our brood this time- (literally) a seven month old gem of a girl, extended family and more fun. Mostly I am the trip planner when we travel. There were certain things on my mind before I zeroed in on the trip, first and foremost the place being child-friendly, coordinating in accordance with everyone’s feasibility, travelling time should be less as it was a weekend trip and so on and so forth. Our group of 13 reached from 3 different locations and it was from Moradabad that we packed ourselves into two cars and headed towards ramnagar which is around two and a half hours drive away. The drive ...

And this is what makes a child's heart the purest

The topic of utmost concern during lunch today was an ambulance stuck in the traffic jam. My kindergarten going son came a little late from the school today. When we settled down for lunch he said do you know why I got late today, to which i replied must be the traffic. He said yes and do you know what happened , " an ambulance was also there in the traffic jam and no one was giving it the way to move ahead", Then he went on and on about how people were honking their vehicles and nobody paid attention to an ambulance which was on its way to help the needy. He said that he asked his father (who picks him up from school everyday) why is no one giving the ambulance the space to go ahead to which he replied that they are not smart people, and want to move ahead themselves first. I wonder how to explain to a 4 year old the "don't care less" attitude of people,to let him know we preach but we do not practice. As a child he has just started his social contact through...

With me forever and ever

Yes, it is through you that i survive each day, manage to just get by, thinking to tell you this or that, sharing with you every little detail, asking for your opinion, or letting you know the mistakes that I make, the lessons I learn, the way i conduct my life, handle my kids, the way you would shower them with all the love, play with them silly, have a hearty laugh over dress-ups, seriously participate in their games, calm their tantrums, narrate beautiful endless stories like you did to us, and then marvel at their queries. I always always instinctively turn to you for everything ranging from studies(back in the days) to relationships, housekeeping to baby food, socializing, travelling, the trials, the exciting, the mundane, the beautiful, the ugly of life, that dream i had last night, the little girl i want to be, the ambition that i hold, or the hobby that i want to pursue, the interesting book that i recently read, the recipe i tried and it turned out to be a disaster(yes! you a...

Soul Ramblings

A saga since eve was created and sent to this earth...a dominance manifested into the minds of almost half the human species calling themselves male of the society to empower their souls and selves, a yearning - that would end with the world probably - of the other half of the society faking not just carnal pleasures but a whole life too! I have a mind and i can have thoughts too, a tongue and the ability to speak too, a heart which may at times want to follow its own rythm and  sway hitherto.... i am a living, livid creature too..., i am a woman, i am every woman, a daughter, a girlfriend, a fiancee, a wife, a mother.....a woman at that. No...no....no you are all those relationships, never forget that and subservience is the golden nectar that has been shoved down your throat since you were a little girl. It is the mantra you have to abide by always and always.... Dare you forget it and here comes the trouble. "Just make sure your bold thoughts are not heard by anyone....what ...

Lessons from innocent hearts

Our kids are the biggest teachers. And at times they are the ones who help us reconnect with our humane side. Their innocent questions and queries leave us speechless. I find myself with no answer at all to many queries of my preschooler. And many a times i struggle to find a reasonable, satisfying and logical answer to his questions. I also feel that i fail at times to explain stuff to him when he wants to know very simple things like why did i got married? why is it that people argue? why can't he color the mango orange instead of the usual yellow? A recent incident that made me feel guilty needs to be quoted so that i can remember it in times to come and learn from it whenever i am going astray. We take a rickshaw everyday from his school back home, and it's awfully hot even at 10:30 am. in the morning when the school gets over. The day I took an umbrella to protect us from sun, he noticed that while we were in the shade, the poor rickshaw-puller was sweating in the sun. H...

Persistence.....is it?

Persistence! Aaaah! The mere mention of the word makes me long to be obedient towards it, like we do with our favorite teacher at school. We want to be the cynosure of her eyes and thereby follow every instruction and be in her good books. So far so good, i.e. life.  Either we laze around and enjoy the status quo or gear up and face the roller coaster ride that each of us goes through by virtue of being a human. Many a times we want to “take it easy”, or “will see when the situation demands”. I count it as lack of not just inspiration but lack of persistence. I maybe inspired by a number of things or people in a day, go to sleep each night thinking that I will get up tomorrow morning and follow this routine. However, what follows is, the morning never comes at the scheduled time. Lo and behold I am already lagging behind! However hard I try to catch up now the persistence in getting up early gets murdered somewhere. Another day same story and I am still struggling to come to ...

Behind Closed Doors

A thought that haunts me endlessly and I keep on thinking of ways to find a solution to it or at least be of some help to the one's who are suffering. I am speaking of numerous women who suffer  from marital woes, dirty kitchen politics, mindless domestic drama in their lives and always give-in to abide by them for the sake of family peace and harmony. From a distance life seems all rosy, happy, on the track, for these suave middle-class working women with a degree from a reputed institution, a job with a brand name that bears more than half a million rupees in a year, a few years of marriage, loving kids, devoted husband, in-laws with whom you leave behind the kids. Dig a bit deeper and each of these oh-so-cool women will relate their deep, dark stories that they are trying to make peace with everyday. Personally, knowing a few of them and then their circumstances makes me wonder when will we as a society learn to respect females. A journalist, a professor, a senior manger with...

Daylight Drama!

How does an afternoon out with a few friends sound? Throw in a romcom, a bunch of giggly gals, and silly jokes, a perfect day out! Especially when husband volunteers to babysit the little bloke, its time let your hair down! On this note I very joyously joined the duo and thus our triad of females marched to watch the latest movie. I was the last one to reach the dark theatre when one of them jokingly informed me that, it seems like we chose the wrong movie we are the only ones watching it besides a few guys two rows behind us who form the audience. As I settled into the darkness i checked out and realised we were the only females. I started looking for the "guy-with-the-torch-who-guides-all-to-their-seats". He wasn't to be seen around. I looked back and counted 6 guys, double in number. Panic starts! Now I am completely unaware of what is happening on the screen in front of me and numerous thoughts start running through my head. I checked the distance till the exit in c...

Countless Shades of Grey

All of us have grown up on a generous dose of fairy tales. We have been acquainted and regaled with the stories of good gaining victory over the evil. A child is never taught what lies between black and white, the thin line that treads between the good and the bad, and how as grown ups we have to deal with shades of grey all over. How we wish to grow up when we are kids and how we yearn to be back to those olden-golden days once we know the price for growing up. Certain moments of your life take away the beauty and joy of living and loving and makes one think about the entire saga that life is. A conversation casually started with a close one turned out to be an eye opener, when i was informed that the lady in question has been harassed at a family event by a very respectable senior member of the extended family known for his righteous ways. As she went on about how she was shocked, taken aback, furious and victimized all at the same time, i too felt a surge of anger swept through...

MOM Diaries...

Kids! Oh! they are such a joy and attention seekers... I feel at times that motherhood is indeed precarious. Finding myself in situations and times when i start pondering about the entire learning and unlearning we have been taught as kids. My two year old lad loves playing kitchen sets and dolls with girls as much as he is fond of cars and cricket bats. Many a times people say "boys dont play with dolls, you should not let him do that." I am quite undecided on this facet. Why should i stop him? He is copying what he sees around him and if he cooks or cleans when he grows up emulating the same things then he would be no less a man.  The fact that he befriends little girls quickly rather than the boys amuses us parents and whosoever gets to know this. Maybe that is the effect of growing up with girls. However what sets me thinking is that whether i had been equally amused at this leaning of my daughter had i been blessed with one? And moreover would i revel in the fact th...

Life Sans Google

"Google"- when the very first time i got an inkling of the name, it was difficult to grasp it initially. To be honest it sounded like some member of the octopus family, weird as it may sound but yeah that was my first impression of the name! The diffrenece however between the real one and my imaginary octopus being that this one is a multi-million legged stuff with unsurmountable capacityand capability. Google and its numerous applications have been through thick and thin - From preparing school projects to finding info on admissions and courses, ,to searching for answers and preparing notes, searching long lost friends, looking for that yummy choco fudge recipe, book review, bucket loads of info for research project, the right job hunt, "the way to a man's heart"-searches, the perfect wedding gift idea for friend searches, locating the best take home food joint searches to now giving insightful meanings of draconian english words to my students during class thr...
